I went to a massage therapist thinking it was due to a knot in my rhomboid, and immediately after the massage I felt better; however, the next day it came back with a vengeance. I workout all the time, I use a foam roller, and I stretch everyday. I have a pain in my left rhomboid that radiates down to my elbow and tingles in my fingers. I can’t for the life of me find a cure and it is getting annoying to the point that I find myself thinking about it all the time. Could the culprit be a nerve compression? If so, can it be remedied at home?

I hope your surgery worked and you are pain free. I was in a head on collision in 2001 and have been dealing with this pain off and on since. I did have an MRI back then but nothing was found/diagnosed. My issues come up mostly when I’m getting sick because inflammation happens during those times. I’m hoping to try these stretches and get some relief. Cheers!

I had artificial disc replacement in 5/6 & 6/7 and I have debilitating pain now, still 2 years later. Surgery isn’t a fix all. Wish I could undo that surgery.

@Chev, similar pain pattern come from C6 C7 facet joints, just Google Image “facet joint syndrome c6 c7”.

Hi Alex, would just like to share that MRI findings do not always correlate with symptom presentation, as have been shown in several research papers that persons with lumbar disc protrusion, osteoarthritis and rotator cuff lesions can have next to no symptoms. Additionally, one tell tale sign that C6-C7 nerve root compression is indeed the culprit is to check for sensory abnormalities in the forearm and hand because they contribute to the median and musculocutaneous nerves. Lack of such symptoms may suggest other contributors to your discomfort as well. Some of which are rightfully highlighted in this article, namely stress, sleep and activity level. They have been found to amplify pain in many persons with musculoskeletal injuries. Cheers and I wish you all the best in recovery.

Regards,
Chev

I recently discovered through an MRI that I actually have a herniated C6-7 disc. After extensive PT, I’m planning on getting it replaced in about a month. Anyone with this kind of pain, be sure to investigate the cervical discs, as mentioned above and was my experience. It was completely holding me back in the gym, causing excruciating discomfort during long sitting periods (cars, airplanes, computer work) and sometimes affected my sleep. You might save yourself years of heartache and pain and frustration by checking on these discs with an MRI. Be your own advocate and ask for one, my initial doctors downplayed my symptoms way too much.

Will these exercises both alleviate the knot and also prevent getting future knotting in this area?

What if the pain is sharp/sticking in nature. Is somewhat relieved by stretching, only to return quickly. There is no radiation or nerve symptoms that I can detect. There is no specific causation either.
